anybody else here this too hearing even dept heads can not make schedules soon do they really want all dept heads to quit or step down this was the ONLY somewhat perk of being one

If that's true, then you won't just have department heads quit. Seniority is going to go out the window when it comes to decinding who gets what shifts. Also, in some departments, especially bakery, people have specialized jobs. The cake decorator doesn't bake bread and the baker doesn't decorate cakes.

I'm betting the message was to use eScheduler....and not manually change or overschedule. I can tell you the scheduling system isn't advanced enough to write a schedule and not make mistakes, specially with limited staffing.

I have tried that a few times for the night grocery schedule.  It schedules full time under 40 hours.  And has part time coming in at 2 in the afternoon on a few days.

I know the eschedule data for truck size is wrong.  It is off by a day.  So, for a small truck, it will schedule 12 people.  For a huge truck, it will schedule 5 people.

lol.  They can write the schedules.  Ok with me.  Just don't ask me to clean up the mess.

Speaking of stepping down.  What is the correct way to step down from the night manager position?  Can I be transferred to a different store?

Normally, if your a Lead or Department Head you have the option to transfer when stepping down.  I'm guessing most STR MGMT's will want to try to keep you, but in reality, if you don't like the Store your at or the people, tell them which store you which to move to when stepping down.  Interesting the data is off....ELMS normally uses the truck schedule and the average order data and sales data to come up with the head count.  In reality, it all depends on how your Division Labor Manager has the settings setup in the system on specific tasks.

I'd be fine with that. A lot of times our department manager screwed us over on shift selections. Then they kept penciling in shifts and changes last minute without the union legal 48 hrs before notice. This prevents that. I'd be thrilled that a bias person writes the schedule. Our manager kept having favoritism in the schedule. If you weren't a favorite you'd get screwed over.

I think you meant " I'd be thrilled if an Unbiased person writes the schedule",  right??   If a biased person is writing the schedule they are likely to play favorites with people and tweak it in certain employees' favor.

I guess some department play these games, but if the person isn't following the Union rules then the schedule/shift should be bumped.  In reality, if you were not given the change to come in or pickup those shift before people with less seniority then you have a union issue.

Eh, it's almost happening now. Every week my schedule gets changed around by my store manager it seems, trying to take my people to fill schedule gaps in other departments like grocery.

I hope so.

It schedules my department gaps of hours without coverage.

But at offsite fuel, we actually have to close and later reopen in those gaps.

Sometimes we do.  Sometimes we get some idiot FEM from the store ****ing bricks about Quevision the whole time.

Sometimes the lead makes suspiciously high amounts of overtime.

I can't decide if it's that the lead just doesn't care (possible), or is merely incompetent (likely), or just wants to work those gaps for sweet sweet overtime (probabable?).

Maybe Kroger should try what Walmart does and make the schedule by the month. Would that work with Kroger? Kroger has ELMS I am not even sure what that means. But what does Walmart have? Anyway at least you will know when you are working and will not have to wait until Friday afternoon for them to hang the schedule. Then the next month it can be done and posted early enough you can make plans Doctor Appointments ETC.

That sounds like a terrible idea. For one thing, you can't always schedule a Dr. appointment around Kroger's schedule. Another thing it does is you have to plan your social activities a month in advance. Who does that? I don't even like the two-week scheduling they're doing now. If someone says, "We're going to the football game a week from Saturday. Do you want to come?" I have to say no because in order to be off on a certain Saturday, I have to put the request in at least 20 days earlier. If I need off on a Sunday, it's only 14 days, but still who plans their normal social activities that far in advance?

My store just had a girl quit because her availability changed so she could no longer work after 3pm. She recently got custody of her sister's kids and needed to get them from school. The office head being the prick he is said it wasn't his problem she either worked what he scheduled her or look for another job. She cussed him out clocked out and never came back.

Sounds like she had a very legit reason to change her availability, hopefully she asked about other positions with earlier hours before this interaction occurred.  In reality, with running a business there is only so much you can do with availability and the needs of the business.  If she was hired and the only hours available are after 3pm, there really isn't too much that can be done.  Associates always think "Someone else can work the late shifts/hours" and it doesn't always work like that.  In reality, she might not have an issue finding another job, but then again, most retail jobs don't hire people off the street to only work before 3pm.

I've been with kroger for 4 years and need to relocate to North Carolina to care for my grandmother. I have heard several different things about when harris teeter will accept kroger transfers such as after 18 months (which it has been since the merger) or at the beginning of 2016. I have contacted many people from both companies and cannot get a straight answer. I just want to know if and when we can transfer.. any information is appreciated!

You dont have to go with what the computer spits out. Theres mo way it can "find out." We have similar things happen to us, and we just override what the computer spits out and work extra hours anyway. We had one cc scheduled for 12 hours and he pencilled himself in for 16 hours. Nothing came of it.

Harris Teeter while apart of the company, basically operates as its own entity.  Just call up the Store Manager of the location you want to work at and share you would like a job.  Hell, they might not take transfers, but you can still get a job and most likely get the same pay and learn about what benefits they offer.  If your having to relocated, does it really matter if its transferring or getting hired? Hell, don't think you have to stay with the company with your move either, look around and see what places have to offer.

I'm glad. Our store started doing this a couple years ago. It prevents department heads or the schedule writer from having favoritism and favoritism in the schedule them selves. We kept having an issue where the lead kept placing them selves mid day shift and refused to do opening or closing shifts. Now that manager has to write schedule she's going back to pulling her fair weight. She was pissy about it but eventually got use to it.

We also had other issues of people being "favorites" with each other and it got old. They'd constantly schedule them selves together and only set them selves up to have "easy" shifts.
