We arrested 5 shoplifters this week for trying to walk out with carts full of groceries. Loss prevention said it is okay to tell management then they can go from there. As employees we can not stop them. Management can. One lady gave the sob fest but we told her she had to pay and it was forgiven. I've seen people pull this b.s and it's getting old. Local food stamp programs can assist these people but they often refuse to partake of it.

Does your store not have the carts with the locking wheels?  If you bring a cart into the store and try to leave without going through a checklane, the wheels will lock.

Since this shameless ploy constructed by the One Percenters of robbing us all blind by sky rocketing prices on everything, all under the guise of a 'pandemic' really got under way, I've been just as shamelessly stealing some 70% of my merch from all the rich corporate retailers. Kroger, Walmart, Target, etc., all give me free stuff every week. I've been saving the cash value in a box in my bedroom.

Fear has been profitable for them? Their greed has been profitable for ME! biggrin

The trick is, you gotta shear em a little bit at a time. You can shear em forever----but skin em only once smile

Honestly given the inventory Kroger sells I am surprised people tried this in the first place.
