Employee's did not make it up the Government made it up and is holding the change. And companies are using this to force people to use a debit card and if you use cash you will get your change back on your Kroger Card I assume? That is complete Bull ****.
You get change back you should be able to spend it where you want. But Kroger gives it back on your Kroger card. Tear your cards up and stop using them.

Yes 100% agree with you. Im sick of this bull**** so I just steal as much as I can. They can steal that tiny bit of change but Im stealing a cart worth of food 3 times a month at least. My grocery bill has never been so cheap lol.

A few months ago I spoke with a store mgr about this issue. She told me she and one of her assistants were making rounds at all the banks around here and GETTING cash and coins. That she was fed up with Kroger corp. telling her there was none to be found, and she had many customers highly upset over it.
This is the direction things in this world are going. The Super Rich and their bought and paid for governments want to remove all cash and coin currency and create a digital market. That way every transaction you'll ever do is recorded with your name and profile....and you will be subjected to a new form of identity invasion and taxation such as we've never seen. Cash, including paper money and metal coins, has a rich, wonderful and varied history just here in the United States. Just ask any serious coin collector. SO much history and background in the various types of coins and bills issued over the last 200-300 years time, even well before the US officially became a nation in 1776.

Keep the app out of your phone. Keep your phone out of the store. Use a random phone number or the number of someone nice as your loyalty card. Pay with exact change in cash. Wear a mask, wig, sunglasses.

Everything is already digital. That's the entire purpose of the loyalty card; every single item in every single purchase is saved to an account. Have you had any shady returns denied? How about coupons in the mail? Where does that come from? If anything, we're incredibly lucky it's based off a customer-supplied unauthenticated number rather than an automatically collected payment card number (Target style).
Extra taxes depend on municipality.
Extra fees apply only if you don't use a loyalty card (and if the cashier doesn't just scan one because they are sick of arguing about "sale" prices). You know, "You could have saved..."
Because without supplying a loyalty card, there's the severe risk of "saving" as much money by shopping at a competitor that doesn't bother with that.
Cash and coin is really only anonymous if it isn't associated with a correct loyalty card.
But mostly it's just a pain in the ass for everyone.
