Customers are still upset about showing I.D. to verify age and authenticity

I had so much complaints from particular group of customers complaining about me asking for I.D. when scanning for alcohol, liquor, cigarettes, certain over the counter medicines. 

Customers are demanding to speak to the manager about asking to show ID. Many chose to use the "cancel culture" -Go ahead, use that cancel culture when you are trying to buy alcohol at age 20 or buying medicine that requires ID scan-your ID. And certain customers are using the whole BLM to reason why they don't have their ID.

 They shouldnt have to show I.D. Most of you associates are common thieves and will probably use the opportunity to commit identity theft. You dont need to see I.D. For people who are clearly over 30. Ill just drop the money for said item and walk out. Nothing you can do about that.

Reminds me of a customer who doesnt want them being tracked.  Im like: Youre already being tracked. Its called your phone.  And your perks card will remember what you buy too.

First of all: Its the LAW!  We SHOULD be checking IDs.

Second: Were ALSO checking if the ID is valid.  Ive had a few customers try buying alcohol with IDs expired a day or two prior.  I tell them: I WANT you to have this.  But I legally CANNOT sell it.

For all I know, that customer could be an offduty cop (which HAS happened)

 I never have to show I.D.  The sign at the register says if you look under the age of 27, you'll be asked for I.D.  I don't know why they picked 27.  Do people suddenly look more mature when they turn 27?

Rule is a rule. Legally a manager can manually enter an id for them if they request it not to be scanned. However each person who requests this is generally an as--s hole di--ck. No id no sale. I can't tell you how many 90 yr olds I had to refuse service to because their ids were severely expired by like 15+ yrs or 55 yrs olds because they threw a yelling fit at the cashier for being so much requested. 

Do not let customers manually enter their b day at sco. This is a wonderful way to get your self fired. This actually happened at my store last yr but staff is slack and let customers enter their bday. No! Do not do this! It will jeopardize your job. Even if the bastard is clearly of age rules are rules. 

You are allowed to deny sales to a customer being an @$$ hole abt this.

No sharing of id's. This is illegal and will cost you your employment.

If a customer is denied at one register  and they let their 25 yr old son go to another and buy it I literally walk up to it and say no he is buying it for someone I refused sale to do not sell it. You can not cashier bounce until you get a yes answer.

 Just walk out?  Thats a good way to be known as see that customer?  keep an eye on them.  And youre very right, we DONT know who youre buying it for.  So why should we take a chance?

 There is no law that says a person has to have a valid I.D. in order to buy alcohol?  The law says you have to show proof of age when asked in order to buy alcohol.  You do not need a permission slip i.e. a driver's license to buy alcohol.

 There is no law that says a person has to have a valid I.D. in order to buy alcohol?  The law says you have to show proof of age when asked in order to buy alcohol.  You do not need a permission slip i.e. a driver's license to buy alcohol.


 That should be a period at the end of the first sentence, not a question mark.

 Ive had underage coworkers looking over 22.  AND had a 75 year old customer look no more than 50.  

Like I posted before: a guy flashed me his P-O-L-I-C-E badge and asked me will this do? [for an ID].  
As for the not selling alcohol without an ID, its mostly a CORPORATE POLICY in addition to what we agree to do upon applying for a liquor license.   Yes, we actually need that to work in the liquor departments.  

There was a coworker who got FIRED for not checking ID for tobacco.  No warning, no write up, immediate termination.

 Well, my corporate policy says to check IDs if they look under the age of 27.  It's posted on all the checkout lanes.  I bought a bottle of wine from the Wine & Spirits shop at another Kroger and I didn't have to show I.D.

 You can't accept an expired or invalid I.D. if you are using it to verify the customer's age.  What do you do if some 80 year old woman, who has given up her license, comes in and wants to buy beer?  People ought to start calling you Barney Fife.

 The ADA will NOT help you with your argument.  Second of all, if you DID have a disability rendering you incapable of doing an ID check, you wouldnt be in a position to do ID checks.  
Third of all, and this is just logs on the fire, your I dont care how old they are and who I sell it to would probably get you arrested when you sell it to a minor and its a sting.  We also do ID checks for cigarettes and tobacco.

Here in the Local1996 area we can take a birthdate for cigarettes, but for alcohol we MUST see a photo ID-no exceptions. Maybe the law is different in other states (?)

I would LOVE to be able to sell it to them. Get them out of my hair.  But I cant.  


 You can't accept an expired or invalid I.D. if you are using it to verify the customer's age.  What do you do if some 80 year old woman, who has given up her license, comes in and wants to buy beer?  People ought to start calling you Barney Fife.


 I dont care how old they are and who I sell it to. If I get caught I just say Im special

 The ADA will NOT help you with your argument.  Second of all, if you DID have a disability rendering you incapable of doing an ID check, you wouldnt be in a position to do ID checks.  
Third of all, and this is just logs on the fire, your I dont care how old they are and who I sell it to would probably get you arrested when you sell it to a minor and its a sting.  We also do ID checks for cigarettes and tobacco.  


 ADA will help so no. I see special tards as cashiers so again youre wrong. And your logs on the fire are extinguished cause my disability is a get out of jail free card. I win


 ha!  What disability do you have that prevents you from showing an ID or getting your ID checked?  Im genuinely curious about that.

I have had several testers come to the Fuel Center. One was obviously underage. Said they "didn't have ID with them" then how are they driving if stopped by police? Thank god we don't serve beer at the FC (it is illegal in Georgia-not sure about other states.)

I know this is old but.... 

Customers today still fight this and due to the strong rules we can't do squat about it. 

Please keep in mind cashiers that it is illegal and you risk your job by allowing customers manually entering their dob at sco. We had 2 cashiers fired a few years ago for doing it. You can be pissy at me for quoting this but these are the rules.

 The **** do we even care about your stupid ID?  You really think we even have time to write down what we saw while serving 50 customers a day?  Or even remembering the right info after a glance?   You dont want to show ID to us then dont shop at our stores.  or just dont buy products that need IDs.

 

You forgot your ID or its expired?  Tough ****, take it up with corporate.
