Store finally let go some long term staff with multiple violations.

Our store recently had a cleaning of employees with shaky work histories. Several of with I've worked along side with 8+ years. These people did their job duties very well and they eventually got them on some sort of technicality. Just because you're in the union does not mean you're 100% safe. It just means they can't up and fire you for just cause because they're sick of you. It generally takes 2 years to get someone terminated who begins to take advantage of the system or have multiple minor violations. 

Our fourth recently got fired because he let his mouth slip. Of all the things they got him on they got him on that. I've seen people get away with much, much, much worse s--hit than that and they get him on that. They recently cleaned house of 4 other coworkers with multiple violations. Did I not warn most of my coworkers once upon a time ago "Most of you can not survive in 'real' jobs." We recently got new management. Those of you who slip through the cracks will not have that luxury any longer. I have survived in non union jobs for 2 decades and I am appalled at what people get away with in grocery. A lot of this would not last 1/2 an afternoon in non-union jobs.

I also feel like the store managers be thinking: we cant fire these guys because we are so stretched thin. We literally have no one to replace them with without hurting our precious sales.

Like if you fire the only guy to go out and get carts, they gotta pull someone from register to take care of carts. Its like Kroger is operating skeleton crews, with an entire leg and hand missing.

I have always been told each manager is different. Some will be totally lax and others will run a tight ship. That's why it's ALWAYS best to be on your guard, mind your own, do your work, and go home. 

I have seen new managers "dress to impress" and be a hard a$$ on everyone. Because they want to show that they can manage. I have also seen new managers be totally chill. 

It depends on your managers. Just because you get rid of a cap manager doesn't mean you'll get a better one. You might get one even worse than your last.
