Good lord people every storm where the area looses power for more than a couple days...

The minute it comes back on people think the store is magically restocked. No, that's not how reality works.

You need to give the employees 2-4 days to get it restocked. And that's if the warehouse didn't loose power too...

Please stop asking employees "Where is everything?"

Okay, so what you've been hiding under a rock the past week or were you out of town?... If the shelves are empty always assume weather. It amazes me how many people are not prepared for winter storms....

What's worse is when there are back to back storms within a couple days of each other, the same people who were panic buying for the first storm are back again for the second storm.  It's like these people don't know how to stock their refrigerators, freezers, and pantries with staples that last a long time and can be thrown together at a moments notice to make a meal.

We had power go out in our store for almost 8 hours many years ago. All of the frozen items had to be tossed out and deli sandwiches were being given away to employees and customers. It took several days for all the frozen items to be restocked. Our store lost thousands.

It was probably covered by insurance.  Besides, if it was only 8 hours, most of the frozen stuff should have stayed frozen as long as the freezer doors were kept shut.  Opening the doors to check to see if stuff is still frozen just lets the cold air out.  It's best just to wait until the power comes back on and then check.  After only 8 hours, probably the only thing that would have to be thrown out would be things like ice cream and popsicles.  Many things that are partially thawed can be re-frozen.  The thing you really have to worry about is raw meat.

One time we had a massive storm coming in and we had enough warning to triple our stock plus we had backstock in our backroom. The storm did get bigger ad it came our way so there were tons of people apocalyptic buying. When the storm passed, we had to reorder as expected but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

One of the only times I was glad of the over ordering bsckstock we had. Our main items going were firewood, toilet paper, paper towels, canned goods.

At the store I work at, the weather just has to be light rain that only lasts for a few minutes, and the panicking idiots act like it's the apocalypse. We can tell who they are just by looking at their stuff in the carts and the way they act. And they come in the day before the weather is supposed to come through and sometimes during the day the weather is moving through. Sometimes I wonder if these panicking idiots even pay attention to the details when watching their televisions or going online or on their weather apps to check or if they just look for trigger words like "rain" or "snow" or whatever and immediately panic.
