The two local stores near me only have one cashier on duty at 7PM and most leave around 9PM leaving self check out as the only option (which PO's customers!!) How many evening cashiers are in your store?
Mine is worse than that op as there are many times where we only have 2 cashiers scheduled for the day,the first one comes in 6-2:30 and the second 2:30 to 11.And the store I work at isn't one of the old rundown small krogers in the middle of nowhere but mine is a 55,000 sq ft store with in the neighborhood of $700k-$800k in weekly sales excluding fuel(non holiday weeks). Two cashiers and six self checkouts is ridiculous for our sales numbers with both constantly backed up I really don't get why people still shop here at all when there are lines 10+ people with cartloads of groceries at the register and many times 20+ at self checkout unless every other grocery store in the area is the same way. I think about quitting constantly because of me being the only cashier but most the time I just ignore the line and only focus on the current customer as it's not my fault they won't give the front-end more hours and there isn't really anything I can do to make the line shorter so out of sight out of mind.
This is coming from corporate if this is every where. Our lead some how gets 60 hr work weeks and we're pissed with 30 hr work weeks.
Front end use to have a lot more check out lanes but over the years have reduced them with more sco machines. Some stores are small-medium stores that only have registers open during prime time hours. Most locals or regular shoppers know to ask for a checker if they do not want sco.
I'm sick of this hell hole known as kroger and moving on next year. Recently completed one AA now earning a certificate then moving on. 15 yrs of this bs is enough. I feel like I got demoted this year and that was sort of a shot in the foot and it's not the first time I've been burned and thrown under the bus. If they're only going to give me 30 hrs a week I'll use those 3 days a week off towards online school. I live in a multi generational home and we only chip in a small percentage to help cover our costs on the daily usage. So I can save most of what i earn and use it towards other things. I no longer see kroger as a long term career option. When I started 15-20 yrs ago it still had some potential as a career growth but now it's just a shi---t show.
