It has been so long since I've taken 14 days off for just my self. Generally vacations are go-go-go and super busy traveling. I haven't been able to afford a out of town vacation for several years. Each time I try to do a stay-cation work goes: Oh, so you can work.. No, that's not how those work. It's probably been 3 yrs since I've taken 2 weeks off for just my self. Generally I only take two 5 day weeks off thru the year and just let the other 2.5 weeks cash out. Not this year! I am so burned out it was let me take it or else sort of scenario. manager was an @$$ and scheduled me one day in the middle. Yea f* that. He over heard me saying "I'd call out that day" so he removed the shift at least. Because I would of.

Let the lesson learned be:

Don't let your vacation pay cash out and actually use it be they hate it or not. Staffing isn't your problem but theirs. If they'd rather have the shift be vacant while you're gone that's on them.

Do not let them harass you into denying you your vacation. Meaning you pay $5k for a trip then they say oh, sorry denied. Nope union grievance then go.

You don't call out...just simply don't show up. Your vacation/stay cation is YOURS and ONLY yours. They can deal with whatever problems arise at work... they have ABSOLUTLY NO choice whatsoever.
I work picklist and one of my co-workers asked "whose doing picklist when your on vacation...we have nobody else." My answer was a shrug "dunno." I'll see if I'm working picklist when I come back from vacation this Monday or if they removed me.

So far I've missed a total of 15 calls from my work, 4 voicemails from work as well, I've gotten 2 texts from my work buddy asking when I'd be back because "they are NOT happy."

Oh well...

I'm going to have to ask tomorrow what's going on with my pay check for this week. It clearly shows vac approved. Yet I do not see a stub for the week I took off :/

Yep, just remember staffing isn't your problem. hell last vac I tried taking at beginning of the year I kept having work penciled me in. No that's not how vacations work.
