UFCW Local 7 getting ready to STRIKE!!

This one is going to get ugly....not like 3 years ago when they were out 10 days and it was quickly resolved. They're advertising for Strike Captains. King Soopers/Kroger has proposed a $4 an hour raise over the life of the contract-which equates to $1.00 per hour per year. What an insult. And why would they want employees to fill their scrips AT Kings? I could see that info being used against someone if it got out to management. They have SO many issues out there in Colorado and it will be interesting to see how this all shakes out since Kroger has stopped negotiating and claims they have offered their "best and final" offer

Maybe it has to do with the cost of living where you live, but our contract gives us a raise of 50 cents a year, and I think that's pretty good.  The only trouble is most of it gets eaten up by increases in health insurance premiums.

You actually think a $0.50 hourly raise per year is "pretty good"? Well, then you're definitely working for the right company! no

Compared to only getting 15 cents or a quarter, it's pretty good.

That's sloppy.

The way to do it is zero dollar raises per year, although inflation and state laws have made that difficult lately.

After a few years, when maxed out pay is within spitting distance of minimum wage, the union gets to swoop in like a superhero and win a dollar or two (spread out over years) after a professional-wrestling style fight.

Kroger and the captive union get two huge benefits that way.

First, they get to shake out anyone who has responsibilities or has to pay rent by themself.

Secondly, anyone who was stupid enough to join the union lately thinks they are superheroes because they don't know that's it for the next few years.

Even though the UFCW is the largest non-government union in the US, Kroger's shareholders needs employee churn and that's more important.

Isn't it interesting that union contracts don't have cost of living increases?  Or matching 401k's, or regular schedules, or any chance of full time...
