We recently hired a new bagger on the front end a few months ago and they've been a constant problem ever since. First, some background on this person. They're sixteen. They're home-schooled. And this is their first job. The problems they're causing are that they constantly call out and/or show up late, they're on their phone at the lanes or out on the lot either on social media or calling/texting their friends, or hanging around the check lanes doing nothing while the rest of us baggers are actually doing our jobs. They also throw a temper fit when things don't go their way. One day they called multiple times that they're going to be late then decided to call out and up and quit as well. The management and supervisors talked back and forth about this and now whatever is concerning this lazy kid is "up in the air" as they put it. Would that mean that this lazy kid is going to be let go one way or another?

Unless your management decides to do anything about it; there's not much you can do. Teens or tweens don't have the professionalism of more aged experienced workers. Once you stop living with your parents and can no longer make decisions based upon mooching income or living situations -- then that's when it all changes. With age comes maturity and it takes some people to learn the hard way unfortunately. My fist job was garbage and that was back when minimum wage was like $4.25/hr and good jobs were like $12/hr and you could live off a $20 all week and be fine. Now a days people don't get it and don't understand what it's like and they keep complaining how expensive things are. When you analyze their spending habits you realize they're living out of budget every month and don't mind taking on debt knowing they'll never be able to pay it back. Those are just bad decisions. I recall blowing through a lot of employment because I left when I got tired of being treated like dirt and just left at that point. I'd aim for 1-3 yrs per job and some times didn't make it that long. Eventually it got to the point where I chased the highest paycheck bidder and some times more income doesn't always mean better job. Or it starts out being good and you would of been better off staying at a job with a sliding increasing pay scale and would of topped out higher in the long run coupled with stability. I ran into a situation once where I couldn't get employment because of a shakey employment history and I could only get temp jobs that paid terrible. No long term steady jobs with could of been growth. Eventually I had to make the decision to buckle down if I wanted to financially make it and suck up a job regardless of how difficult it got. If you play chicken with employment your whole life you'll be chicken. You can't run from all your problems because if you do, you don't learn anything from them or you don't learn how to deal with the situation to fix it or make it better. Running or quitting is not the answer people. It's the coward's way out. I stayed with this company 17 years and went back to school to get some formal training for a higher paying job and more narrow training. As I am sick of these sorts of dead end go no where pay check jobs. I'm also diving back into my art and getting quite good at it and will eventually just use my new training for insurance and stop chasing money. God provides.
