Every now and then we get a customer who's a jerk and the first phrase out of their mouth is "I want the fresh product from the back."
1 you're a jerk and 2 if you're not polite about it and rather rude, we'll eventually cut you off from this service.
It's one thing to be a rarity but if you ask every damn time you come in, it gets old and if a pattern begins to form, we will refuse to honor this service. I've started having a weekly regular do this and I/we're done with this. You treat us like sh-it regardless of how polite we are to you even when we go the extra mile for you and you're just highly disrespectful.
I was taught to be grateful for even just having food on our plate. If you're a perfectionist and want the "best" product with no blemishes, you're going to the wrong store. I have stopped buying food at my store because I see how old it is and due to the slower product movement I see how old it is and how close they push it to expiration date. Stop asking, please. Or you'll find your self without service. I am humble to a degree but if you've cursed it and become disrespectful to the workers that bring food to your plates, I will not be honoring this service any more. If I know the product is the same or similar quality that is on the shelf I'm just going to go to the back, make you wait 1-2 minutes then come out with nothing and tell you "No, we're out. A lot of the food this individual is complaining about is perfectly passable by our store standards and we have very high standards for product. Please stop asking "I want the fresh product from the back." every darn time you come in please! Once in a rare while I don't mind but every damn time you come in, no. Not only is this disrespectful you disrespect us by saying "oh, goodness no this is terrible..." despite the fact we just got it in and if you want the untrimmed boxes in the back you see what it comes in from the fields. Untrimmed and unwashed.
I'm nothing but polite to you and you always make me feel dirty and disrespected each time I interact with you and I will begin to cut you off from this service. You can't complain .... I'm disabled and mental out weight any physical disability. As far as I'm concerned disrespectful customer, we're on the same level. If anything I'm more disabled than you are and you're being a jerk about it. You also keep catching me 10 min until I'm off and I'm going to start denying you service and make the pic on duty handle you.
My response: "Everything has already been put out."
I'm going to start telling her that. Not only is it disrespectful we can't do this multiple times a week each time she comes in and that can be any where from once a week to several times a week. She always flags me a few minutes before I leave and if it falls into the 15 min before I'm off I won't help her last time I had to get rude and tell her "I'm off I can't keep helping you."
I'm going to ask our lead what to do but I'm pretty sure you're correct. I also think I read a policy where if a regular starts becoming pushy for back product we can start telling them "No" if it becomes a repetitive habit.
Policy makes us put the oldest product out first which still falls into "passable" by our store standards. This customer has a silver spoon in her mouth that's nasty. Despite being extra polite to her to not give her any reason to complain about me, I still walked away feeling nasty from like an aura of nastiness around her that stuck with me for about 2 days. I never understood why people have to be that nasty for no reason. I've encountered her a few times as a cashier and she was rather nasty to me as well. I'm humble to a degree but retail taught me how to have a thick skin.
