What is Kroger's solution to the problem? Put out even more product so our shrink percentage goes up. If something doesn't sell at a certain price, then putting out five more varieties of that item at the same high price is not going to increase sales. We must carry at least half a dozen "French" breads. What's the real solution? Lower the prices. Bakery prices have gotten ridiculous. A 9x13 quarter sheet cake is $23.00. A 4-count package of Private Selection cinnamon rolls is $7.00, and they're not even that good. Majority of the artisan breads are $5.00 a loaf. Based on how much prices have gone up compared with how much my paycheck has gone up I would say that the prices are 40% higher than what they should be due to normal inflation.
