 Technically yes AND no

Kroger did away with inventory tagging 5-7 years ago (couldn't get form date from the manager)

..You know those ccool tags the distribution center is supposed to put on the cases that tells you everything about the case and it's contents (if it's currently on sale, specific shelf location, and a neat barcode to make annual inventory a breeze)

By eliminating those Kroger doubled the work load of the clerks (Ad isn't seperated from backstock so we run everything at once which slows things down and makes product holes worse and the management angrier.) Plus over-ordering and under-ordering are out of control.

And then there's the disgusting "cleaning" proccess for dairy rack inserts,  take a moutain of calcified and minerally bonded for God knows how long inserts putt them on the dirty a$$ floor (near the high traffic cooler door) and 'scrub' them with a dirty a$$ wetted push broom on said dirty a$$ floor.

That takes HOURS to do, in 30 min you could do a weekly whipe down with APC (windex for those playing the home game) and paper towels (PROPER ONES, not those puissant hand towels I've seen being used.)

Everything Kroger is doing is grossly ineffiecent and bogs done the clerks routine UNNECSSARILY , and I haven't even gone over the mangement problems.

Kroger's hires like the army, you meet a sweet recruiter who promises you the world (I'm still waiting on my 12.80/h wage adjustment) and then when you go to your store it's "WELCOME TO HELL!" Salaried have absolutely no people skills and the first impression new hires get with mangement is mostly negative...

"Your not supposed to do that! You have to stock from the back"

'But my supervisor told me to do this since I don't know where everythinng is'

"YOU ALWAYS STOCK FROM THE BACK, you condition from the front and stock FROM THE BACK!"

No, Hi my name is  __________  I'm the store manager, pleasure to meet you

My store and the gist I get from other SW Kroger's is that employee morale is pretty damn low.

Wow, I didn't reailze that they're actually fourms on how much The Kroger Co. sucks! Well I'm pharmacy and let me tell you, you think they're always shoving key retailing up your *** try us! Every day when I walk in its something new, some kind of new rule to follow and for what so it can be changed in a week? Kroger really needs to get their **** together they're so inconsistant one hand never knows what the other is doing! Oh and don't even get me started on RX wait times, I consistantly see this company compramising safety for speed, and I blame Kroger because they like to baby their customers they've gotten them so use to the idea of being " in and out" that customers think it's that way in the pharmacy too. Kroger needs to understand that this is a pharmacy not a fast food restraunt customers can't demand their medecine be ready right then and there.

Yes i agree.  i used to love going to Payless to work but now I force myself to go to work there.  They need to quit calling people from all over the store and have all lanes open 24/7.  If I could manage the beck lane store oh how things would be so different.  I absolutely hate the pay 8 dollars an hour after 5 years.  you know management doesn't care whether we have a life or not.  I gree that in 10 years kroger and all of the stores will be gone if they keep it up.

34 consecutive quarters of same store sale growth, yeah, they're on the verge of extinction. If you don't like it so much, why do you stay there? I don't think they draft people to work there, do they?

Kroger has by far been one of the most frustrating companies to work for. I have been there for 3 years and still making 7.25 even after being moved up in my department. We are constantly under pressure and b!tched at my managers to get our check times up but at the same time we are constantly understaffed. We have no help with bagging or anything usually so it slows us down. My new manager is a huge tool. He yells at everyone. And I mean yells! I never really believed anyone that said he was a huge douche (because he's always friendly when you see him walking around) until I got called in myself for asking a supervisor for help on something. (a markdown) Afterwards I was called into the office for not knowing how to do a mark down. I was never properly trained just kind of thrown onto the register. And I get yelled at for 10 minutes by this douche, the whole time trying to fight the urge to get up and spartan kick him in the chest or just say FU I quit. We've had alot of people quit since he's got there. My other front end manager never reports people changing departments and is terrible about it because there are alot of people at my work that have gone unreported in their department change and have not recieved their raise as a result. Which is essentially why I haven't got mine. Basically she's sucks at that aspect of her job. But I actually like her as a person somewhat though she has changed in a bad way a values the employee less and less. A few weeks ago a co-worker of mine was physically threatend by an abusive customer and she apologized to the customer, who was also being abusive towards his wife. Hearing that made my heart sink and was further evidence that we mean nothing to them.

All in all I hate going to work now. I used to really like it I have alot of friends there...My feelings for kroger are strongly mixed. I'm comfortable there and still waiting on backpay and my raise so I do not want to quit. But my Kroger doesn't respect the employees and constantly drops the ball in management. It's getting old and I'm very frustrated.

Now the WORST part about all of this is I'm in the union. I pay them 7.25 each week. That's 1 hour of work each week for them. And they don't do SH!T. Literally nothing. I've been talkin to my Union guy for 9 months and nothing has happened. He's nice. But either he just sucks at his job or is a lazy P.O.S. I've sent him faxes filled grievances met and talked to him on the phone a countless number of times and nothing has happened. DON'T join the Union. I can put up with sh*tty bosses but a sh*tty union is another thing. I pay them so they can hear me b*tch and not do anything about it just act like they are. HUGE waste of money and time. They wont let you get out till the month of your "Union anniversary" or some BS like that. Now I have to wait a year just to get out of this horrible pact with the Union. They tell you the union is good. It's not. Anything they can do for you you're better off going to HR and taking care of it yourself cause the Union sure as hell won't. Not that upper HR is good either. Though my store HR lady has been more helpful than anyone. THe Union will talk big then drag their ass for months and will basically not do anything and hope you forget about it. Or make you jump through hoops for them so they don't have to do the work then do nothing with what you provided them.

SO, My advice is if you are going to work for Kroger. Do not join the union. It's a useless black-hole consuming hard workers money and Impossible to get out of.

Thank you.

Also @ "the dude" most of them do not love it. The old maintenance guy at my store is always muttering profanities to himself. I'm pretty sure he's on the edge of going off the deep end. So I try and be really friendly to him and help him when I can. It's assheads like you that operate under the preconception that these people like cleaning up **** because they're dumb or old and take advantage of those people and don't treat them like human beings. Like cleaning up **** is some sort of privilege for them. Heck they make the most out of it and try and be happy when people are around. But trust me this guy is very disgruntled and unhappy. Even the dumb and old ones know they're getting ****ed over by their company.

Though I will say one thing. Kroger is very good about providing the mentally handicapped with jobs. On the downside of that working understaffed with mentally handicapped people sucks! I mean they're nice and all but when it's rush hour and there's a ton of groceries coming through and all you got is one of them to bag..They get overwhelmed pretty fast and so does everyone else. I think that has more to do with who's making the schedule's for that week. Though upper management puts the pressure on our managers and supervisors for maximum speed and production while at the same time only putting a few people on each shift to maximize production and save money so sadly this situation ends up happening all to often.

Now another kind of good thing about kroger is that you will have job security. You have to screw up pretty bad to get fired. So you can make 7.25 your whole life if you wanted! On the downside of that the same bad employees may stick around for a good while and make your job harder before they screw up bad enough to be let go. It's kind of like an abusive relationship. Though the union is more like one because you can't get out of it when you want only when they allow it and they'll continue to take and take from you until you finally do or quit. And it's more likely you'll quit before you get out.

That felt good. Now time to go look for a new job.

Exactly! What's the point of a fancy breakroom when they purposely give me 6 hour 45 minute days just to **** me out of a thirty minute break. I can barely choke down a sandwhich and drink a soda in 15 minutes. I dont care if the break room has 45" tvs in it. I get paid 7.25 an hour to be Krogers bitch. Being outside in pouring cold rain. Then they get mad and cut your hours if you're sick. Wtf man.

I work in California for Ralphs as a Courtesy Clerk been there for 4 years, Kroger decided as of this year to cut our hours once again, so all of the sudden I'm stuck with my closing duties along with closing produce, meat department, bakery, and their newest bright idea, service deli! I walked back there the girl working there gave me a quick tutorial then left because she was on a 6 hour shift. The next day, I got bitched at for doing something wrong, because apparently my management believes that I need to know exactly what to do the first time I do it, which btw my ever expanding job description comes with no extra pay. Whoever the jackass who thought of Que Vision needs to be fired all it does is stress my managers out, it allegates one of them to the computer looking for "dips" as they call it. I hope this company burns they think that by treating their employees like **** that they will establish a good business model. Well eventually that will end up blowing up in their face.

I worked for Kroger's/ Fry's Food.  I fell at work and severely injured myself requiring 2 surgeries.  I went through all the necessary steps of allowing the management to drug test me etc.., went to the doctor they told me I had to go to.  Fry's or Kroger's is self-insured and works directly with Sedgwick-workers comp.  Both of these terrible horrible companies refused to pay anything toward all the medical bills I had.  I told them I was taking them to the Industrial Commission--what a joke that turned out to be.  Fry's made it so difficult for me to continue working for them.  I would get blamed for yelling at customers which I would never do, for not cleaning the department I worked in properly. Fry's management told workers comp and the Industrial Commissioner that I fainted--hot at all true.  They are a HORRIBLE COMPANY, that doesn't give a rats behind about their employees.  It's all about the dollar for them.  They pay min wage, work your butt off, and treat you like pure crap.  If this posting gets one person not to shop at one of their stores, then good.  I hate liars, and Krogers and Fry's is just that--LIARS.

I sincerely hope I get the opportunity to see Krogers fall flat on their face.  What a horrible, disgusting company.  I worked for the worst manager that enjoyed ridicule and trying intimidate her employees.  Their upper management you can most certainly bet doesn't make min wage.  Most of the management they have doesn't know anything when you try to get answers.  As for the union I was in--what a joke!  They didn't do anything for me when I needed them, all they did was take money out of my weekly pay checks.  They tricked all the new hires into signing up for the union, stating this is a requirement of employment.  When several of us tried to call them on it--they told us we had to be union members for one year, before we could get out of it.  They proceeded to tell us we would be in bad standing with the union.  Who the f cares?  The entire company and union is in bad standing with me and so many others.

a terrible, horrible, disgusting company that is run by terrible managment who doesn't give 2 sh*ts about the people who work there. They over work their employees for next to nothing pay. Unorganized, no breaks, hours suck, and management could honestly care less about their employees like they say they do. They train you terribly and leave you to pick up the pieces if something goes wrong. I hate it! And they just throw you into the field without any prior knowledge to anything. It's like in the interview they're nice and they say they care and they wan't you ther, but once you are actually employed all of that goes out of the window and all they care about is if your scanning a damn plus card. The management at my store is terrible and they think too highly of themselves for them to work for an industry like Kroger. I will NEVER work for these people again..suck a** company.

I am a veteran of three "tours" with Kroger. My first was in 1996, I was a teenager, worked as a bagger. This tour was ended abruptly when I was informed that baggers are to speak to no one other than customers or the front end supervisor. I finished my shift and declined to go back.

My second "tour" was from 1997-2004, in the meat department. I started at about 4.75 (which was minimum back then) and nearly seven years later I earned $6.25/hr. I hated my job but needed the work, and kept at it. In early 2004 I had a major life event and had to relocate. I used all of my PTO and vacation time to facilitate the move, had management approval and backing from my store to transfer, had the Union go-ahead to transfer, and met the new store manager after relocating. I was scheduled to begin the following Monday, so I would not have missed any work that was not vacation or PTO. I have to say at this juncture that if any of you meet Alan Sustakoski, he is a good man who was the BEST Kroger manager I ever worked for. He is higher up in Zone F MidAtlantic now, and even though his new job requires him to be a Kroger hardliner, he is still a blue collar worker at heart. He would bend over backward to help anyone who is trying to help themselves. I can't say enough, but I digress...

Anyway, on Saturday before beginning at the new store, I was contacted by the now-retired Kroger manager (to remain nameless) of the new store, and he told me that the people in the meat department were upset because with 7 years experience, I would bump into the #3 slot in seniority. They were creating a lot of noise, and he didn't want to deal with it. His suggestion to me was to resign, reapply in a few weeks, and (not in his words, but his sentiment) start over as a new hire! I would lose rate of pay, seniority, insurance, PTO, vacation, etc but he was concerned with upsetting the old guard.

I contacted the Union, and they said the manager had already accepted the transfer, and would have to accept me as an employee. They told me not to resign. They told me that they would have it straightened out but that it could take another week.

Two weeks went by and the Union could give me no progress report, even though I called my rep personally every other day. In the meantime, my savings was quickly being depleted, so I started looking for other work. I found another job the second day, they offered me minimum wage with a 30-day evaluation and, if performance was satisfactory, a $2 raise on the 31st day. I had never seen raises like that, so I decided to go to work with them. I told them before they hired me about the Kroger situation, that I was trying to get a transfer pushed through and it could be any day. They said, "No problem, you may like working here better, but if you only stay a few weeks, it's okay."

The second week of working for the new company (which was a month after my supposed transfer start day) the "nameless manager" called me and said the Union wanted the transfer to go through and he needed me at Kroger the following Sunday. I explained that I had found another job since we had last spoken, and he said "Kroger doesn't come second, we don't work around other jobs." I said I had the potential of making more money with the new job, and that the fact remained HE didn't want to accept the transfer at first, which made Kroger my second job at this point. He got really irate, so I said, Tell you what, let me talk to my 1st job and see what I can do. I never called him back. By the time I left the new job, I had more than doubled my Kroger pay, in only 18 months.

The third "tour" is a long story, but suffice it to say that I had many problems with a supervisor and the Union would do nothing because "you can't file grievances against other Union members." THIS IS WHY DEPARTMENT HEADS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED KROGER MANAGEMENT EMPLOYEES. The Union protects abusive supervisors by sheltering them as Union members!!!

The point is this: If you are a current Kroger employee and don't like your job, and you are a dedicated worker, DON'T BUY INTO THE HYPE THAT YOU ARE 'LUCKY' TO BE WORKING AT KROGER. They don't care about your family, they don't care about your well being. YOU CAN DO BETTER IF YOU BEAT THE PAVEMENT AND LOOK AROUND. Kroger doesn't deserve good workers, the Union doesn't deserve good workers. YOU DESERVE BETTER THAN KROGER.

It was the co-manager's idea, and at the time I was 16 years old, knew he was full of crap, and moved on.

It absolutely IS STUPID. You are correct. That's why, even at 16, I thought, "This guy is a moron. Time to go."

It was/is this absurdity that I am hoping to counter through my presence here. Only through a mass exodus of good employees will the company and union realize that something has to give.

Complacence is just as evil as perpetration. To do or say nothing is just as bad as doing the wrong in the first place.

That's...just stupid. Baggers talk to the cashier they're bagging for all the time. O_o

I recently just started working here about 3 weeks ago. I work in the deli. all of a sudden, I check the schedule and I have 0 hours for this coming week. keep in my mind, I called my manager, left her a voicemail and texted her. she did not get back to me about my schedule. I went in yesterday very confused because no one even bothered to tell me what's going on. I had to track down a manager and she told me I was being moved to the front like everyone knew but me. the rumor was I was apparently ignoring customers, and not even doing my job. 99% of the time, I was the one doing all of the work. I just like how not even management could tell me what was going on. I had to contact the customer service manager today and told her I could only work in the morning on Sunday. I was told that Sunday is required in my work week and I'm at the bottom of the schedule based on seniority. **** seniority and **** unions!! if I need Sundays off then I NEED SUNDAYS OFF!!! end of story.

I have over 10 years experience in grocery and retail, have worked at many other grocery and retail stores, and can honestly say this is the worst job I have ever had. It's no wonder they have such a high associate turnover rate. No sane self respecting person would endure a place like this for very long. I certainly hope all Kroger stores are not run like the one I work at. Good luck to you all.
